Approximately ten years ago, Dr. Keith Phillips, DDS, served one week, in a church sponsored dental clinic in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The experience so strongly affected his view of service that he has returned virtually every year since to continue his work.
The clinic in Montego Bay became the first of three free clinics to be supported by the Giving Hand Foundation. Over the past ten years, general dentists, oral surgeons, physicians, nurses, hygienists, dental assistants, and support personnel from many walks of life have traveled to Jamaica to serve in the Montego Bay clinic. Although the goal of this service is “giving back”, the givers often find they receive more than they felt they have given.
